Going indexed

Am considering converting the old 531 to indexed gears, but am not willing to spend £100+ on STIs, so was thinking of using Down Tube shifters instead - various places have these at £40 per pair (and get some cheap new brake levers)

I've got a nine speed block at the back - is there any problem with using 10 speed shifters? CRC have the Dura Ace ones at £40 at the moment

Also - can you use Campag shifters on Shimano gears???

It's just a hill. Get over it.

I got shimano R400 8 speed ones for under £30 - I know you're looking for 9 speed but I did manage to get my original 7 speed shifters to work an 8 speed block successfully!
But if you check out my thread you'll see that I'm not that impressed - hopefully DA would be better quality.

Cor - the shift mates etc sound good but frankly for $US40 it ain't worth the bother on my Sora rear mech!!!!

I think I'll just get some DT Dura Ace levers with 10 speed so it's future-proofed (ish)

10 sp shifters will not work properly with 9sp.
Do you need double or triple. PM me, I have a spare set of Ultegra 9sp STIs going cheap. Not sure if they will do triple. I will check.
