Ok I admit I'm as thick as pig sh!t3 when it comes to most things techno so here goes -

I got my garmin 705, i've downloaded updater, training center, system update so now what do I do?
I've read so many forums/websites that I have information overload and my head is spinning!!!

Do I now buy a map for the garmin (like city navigator?) download it then go on websites like GPSies.com, BikeRouteToaster.com etc etc to make a route?
I'm also on a mac, does this make any difference with the maps I buy/sites I can use?
Cheers.

Did you get any mapping products with it or just the (fairly useless) basemap?

If you just have basemap, you can still load a course onto the Garmin from BikeHike.co.uk or Bikeroutetoaster.com, but it makes it much easier to follow if it shows all the roads (in the correct position) rather than the arbitrary basemap roads.

Try creating a simple course on one of the above sites, save to your computer as a .tcx file, then copy this to the "Courses" folder on your Garmin (when you connect the Garmin to your PC with the USB cable, it should show up as a virtual hard drive).

Then switch on the Garmin and go:
menu > Training > courses - find the course you just saved and click on it using the cursor button (middle of screen at bottom). Then "Do Course" and try following the course on the road.

Google the Frank Kinlan website as this has lots of useful info on all Garmins (unlike the Garmin user info!).
  • great cheers Bronzie, i just have the basemap (i think!?)

i'm having another problem now. i've just tried using it on the turbo but it keeps flashing up 'multiple cadence modules' whats that all about???
