Hi guys,
Can anyone recommend a long lasting rear cassette\chain for a 2007 Rockhopper?
I just ride XC, about 50 miles per week, and the Deore cassettes seem to last max about 400 miles before they are worn out (slipping\jumping too much).
Cheers,
Ade.

400 miles is way too short. and there is not anything that is longer lasting than the Deore.
sounds like either lack of lubrication and maintenance or just poor set up and the cassette is fine but the gears need adjusting."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

So you're going through 6.5 cassettes a year?!?!?!
I'd follow Nick's advice pretty pronto.
Chain wise I'd stick with the SRAM PC951 which, I think, was OE on the 2007 'Hopper. Although it may have been a PC971 depending on the model.Whyte 905 (2009)

Cheers.
My local bike shop had set it up, and I think that they would have done it correctly.
I guess that it must be down to my cleaning\maintainance. As my teachers used to say 'Must try harder'.Somewhere in the Surrey Hills :-)0 -

So I think that I'm going to spend some time reading up on how to clean and lube it correctly.

They must love you
It's pretty simple to clean the drive train properly, read this:

Mate....pick up some free hints and tips from here, spend around £30 on a tool set (Lifeline on Wiggle is what I use and I do full rebuilds so it's fine) and do it all yourself.
Then you can put the £150 you would have spent into an account and after 10 months you can treat yourself to a Whyte 905.
Or wait 2 years and go for an E120.Whyte 905 (2009)

that is ridiculous. Are you sure it's actually needing to be replaced? Not just out of alignment?
TBH, with that much wear you'd be better off going singlespeed.0 -

Let me get this correct... You spend £1,800 per year maintaing a Deore spec bike putting it through <3k miles?
You have more money than sense, my bike has XT/XTR kit and has cost less than that over the whole 4 year period doing 50 miles per week....
Live any where near Putney? I'll 'maintain' your bike for a mere £1,200 per year and save you some cash...0 -
