Folks,
Will be buiding a mountain bike for the first time this weekend. Was wondering what tools I need ? It will be a specialized epic with a xtr bb/front mech/cranks, xo rear mech, xo shifters, avid juicy brakes, sram 9-sp casette and chain.
I have:
- shimano casette lock/chain whip (assuming this also works for sram casette ?)
- torque wrench (3/8") and bolts
- allen keys
- screw drivers
- bike multi tool with chain tool and rotary disc screw drivers
- bike grease and gun
- carbon seize paste
- chain lube
- bike stand
- patient wife (for one day)
Anything else I will need ? Do I need brake fluid or will the brakes come with the fluid in them (they haven't arrived yet).
Also, can anyone recommend some good websites/resources ?
Sure, I could pay a LBS to do this, but want to do it myself, just to learn how it all works.
Thanks in advance.

Parktools do a good list.
but you will need the LBS to check the BB has been faced. and do it if not.
Prep the headtube if required.
if the hoses are too long a bleed kit and fluid...
BB tools, headset tools, hacksaw. cutting guide. start nut tool or home made tool or other steerer plug."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Many thanks Nick.
Hmm, OK, the BB is already on the frame, and the fork has been used with that frame before, so hopefully I don't need the hacksaw either.
Bleed kit and fluid appears I will probably need...
Let me check out the start nut tool and steerer plug on Parktools.
Thanks.BMC Pro Machine

well if the fork has been used then there may already be something in the steerer."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hi,
Apart from a wire cutter, do I need anything else to install and adjust the shifters and derailleurs ?

Allen or torx keys
and a chain splitter when you get there.
Oh wire cutters are not good. Cable cutters are better.
and a sharp pointy thing to open the cable back again to make it round."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
