i am quite likely to end up buying and specialized fsr xc expert as i was in my LBS today and they did me a good deal on it. I was wondering about using parts off my old bike mainly my brakes as i currently have hope m4s although these are about 5 years old i wasnt sure if having these brakes tidied up would be better the the avid elixir 4s that the new specialized comes with?

cheers

    personally i would not bother.

I would give the avids a go and see what you think.

things have come on a bit in 5 years.

i think the avids will probably be just as good as the old M4's, though i don't see any reason why you couldn't swap them (and other parts) over

just another thought are the hopes IS mount? and the forks Post mount?

if yes you will need a new front disc 20mm bigger that the current one for the hope caliper.
