New glasses - Transitions lenses?

I have recently been suffering from visual fatigue a lot from changes in lighting conditions which has resulted in me having to stop my rides until I can rest my eyes enough. It's very difficult on a group ride.

Hearing about Jonathan Vaughters' comments on the matter got me thinking.

I needed some new glasses so I thought about some transitions lenses to alleviate my visual fatigue but the price put me off.

As a result before buying my new glasses I started a training plan.

I started with endurance sessions in my daughter's bedroom which has a dimmer switch. I read 'The Rider' by Tim Krabbe whilst my wife slowly raised and lowered the dimmer.

After this base period I started with High Intensity Interval Training where I would sit on the toilet reading Pro Cycling magazine, then, holding the string pull. I would then turn the light on and off in rapid succession. These sessions were quite short and I based them on the notorious Tabata Protocol.

After 8 weeks I was noticeably less visually fatigued and as a result I was able to manage with normal lenses rather than have to spend the extra on Transitions. I picked up my new glasses yesterday. I will try and sort out the OCP bathroom door shot in due course.

I got some Spiuk glasses that came with both photochromtic and high contrast mirrors. I tend to just wear the photochromatic and they really work well in all but the very brightest conditions.

I hope this adds to the discussion.

If folks do end up going down the new glasses route then, for prescription lenses anyway, I can't praise the customer service found at isyte too highly. I ended up with a pair of Oakley Flak Jackets with presciption gold transitions lenses, which cope well in all conditions I've been riding in so far.

So long as they stay trendy and my prescription doesn't change for the next 40 years or so I'll be ok then...top value
