Hi all this is my first post on here.

I've owned a Boardman Team road bike for over a year now as my "best" bike using a Giant in the winter.

I've decided to upgrade to carbon (which I've never used before) but want to do this on a budget.

The plan is to buy a Planet X SL Carbon Pro frame/fork set and transfer all the Ritchey kit from the Boardman over onto it.

1. What do you think? Will there be sufficient benefit in having a carbon frame to warrant this?

2. If so do I go for all black i.e. black frame/forks or have a white frame with black forks and components.... decisions, decisions......

NOT WORTH IT. OR JUST GET A TEAM CARBON . SAME BIKE BAR THE FRAME. AND BETTER THAN PLANET x.

Can't afford a Team Carbon

The above option would get me a full carbon frame/fork for £399.00. My LBS have quoted me about £40.00 to change the components over from the Boardman, so my spend would only be about £450.

I've heard good reports about Planet X, is this not the case?

i dont think its worth all that money. ive got a team carbon payed £825 never ridden, there isnt much difference. you have a fine bike. i only bought because i got it for roughly the same price. have to be more carefull with them which is a drag. if anything happens il get your frame or a comp frame. its just as good my friend.look very nice in met grey. much better spent on tyres and wheels chains etc.
  • 450 is way too much for not much difference. The ride might be worse!

It really does depend what your upgrading from, as I went from from a cheap decathlon road bike that was 170 GBP new to a mid range carbon Trek Madone 5.2. night and day difference but I dont think you would feel the difference between the boardman and planetx.

Do you feel the boardman flex at all when you put power down etc? Carbon may be worse, I was thinking of a planet X, but after seeing a local chap ride one of their TT bikes in a km sprint and the rear end noticably move around it put me off, he is a strong rider mind you as he won the sprint!

Your £400 would be better invested in wheels, tyres and other kit.
