I have bought a 2nd hand stumpjumper fsr frame '05.The rear triangle all feels pretty solid as well as the triad shock and the after market betd shock link.I was thinking about servicing the shock and replacing the bearings / bushings before i start building it up...but don't know if i should leave well alone. Is it a straight foward job and how sloppy would it feel if it really required doin'...?

Cheers

  • Hi marts500,

I've got an '05 stumpjumper fsr (nice bike), and my bearings definitely need replacing.
If you have the bike standing and lift from the saddle you can feel a bit of play in the joints.

If I was you, I'd build it up first and then only replace if they need it.
The bearing kit and bushings add up to a fair bit.
  • Hello there - same bike. I'd agree with hoberinos - if it all feels solid then stick with it. When mine started to knock i discovered it was the shock bushing. As with changing/serving the bearings it was pretty easy to sort out - but meant shelling out for a tool i'll only use once etc
To be honest been shocked at how well mine (second hand as well) has stood up to the abuse - still going strong and no plans to sell it.
    cheers
  • mmmm.....i might just whip out the shock and put some fresh rubbers and eyelet bushings in...by the way do fox do something that will replace the 165mm triad shock..?

what tool was that you forked out for and which bearings did you use it on. I've had most of the bearings out of my 2007 stumpy using various not recommended methods. Be interesting to know how it should be done.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
