I am just interested in what some peoples view are in brakes I at present have discs on my bike which I am saving up to get converted to hydrolic from cable, I just wondered whether people prefered discs or calipers ?

I'd guess you're asking regarding an MTB? If so, re-post your Q in the MTB section for a more informed response in this area.

Depends on the bike. I love V brakes.

    I prefer mechanical.
The hydro levers lag when returning. And for many other reasons I don't like them.

Have you tried some hydro brakes?

Off-road, hydraulic discs. No two ways about it.
On-road, caliper always seems to do the trick fine for me.

??? Is this why all mechanically propelled bikes since about 1975 have had hydraulic breaks.

Me thinks ya need to clean your pistons and get em bled properly.

Maybe, but I like more the feel of a spring tension.

I don't have hydraulic brakes, I have mechanical, set up properly.

I'm not saying hydro's are bad, they maybe are better than mechanical in many ways like
power (except a mates Sole's :| ), modulation, reliability, but I just don't want them on my bike.

And as the op said "I just wondered whether people prefered discs or calipers ?".
    I prefer mechanical. :)

I understand what he is saying - the return springs in some brakes offer a different feel. The flexion of the seals is not as strong as a return spring. I much prefer the feel of a V brake, and are generally more adjustable to get the feel you want.
