After uploading the dvd to my computer and transferring the maps I can't work out how to get it to take me to a particular address:

When i go to 'Where to', then 'find places', and then it takes me to the page which says:

ENTER NUMBER
ENTER STREET NAME
ENTER CITY

It says below 'none found'.

So if i then click into 'street name' and write a street name it STILL says none found.
WHY would that be?

Also, can you ask it to take you to a postcode?

  • Does your uploaded map show on the screen (not the original basemap with no detail at all) but your new uploaded detailed Mapsource map? If not, have you got it selected in one of the settings?

Just done what you`ve asked, and mine came up with an alphabetical list of places before I spelled in anything, then as I type (I used Bury as it`s quick) it automatically started to find places beginning with B, then BU, then BUR and then BURY, Bury St Edmonds etc, select which one you want, then it goes to number, and then street, as you type a street name, again, it starts to fill in names as you type letters, until you find the street name you want.

If it`s got nothing in there, then it looks like you don`t have a base-map selected, or even loaded?? (all ther street info should be in the original basemap, even though there isn`t much road detail in it)

  • Interesting.
Yes new uploaded map is showing.
If i go to 'where to' there a drop down list, then
    FIND PLACES
All the new data is in i.e. intersections/cities/food and drink/gas station and so on and so forth and when i click into these the info comes up - BUT
when i click into either Address or intersections:
it has the three lines/boxes (number/street name/city) and a box underneath that says 'none found'
If i go to type anything in NOTHING comes up ...

If i wanted to look for a road/postcode ON the mapsource software on the computer - how do i do that too? I go to find, and it comes up with a dialogue box with 'city' in, and i can type in a village in the 'city' box but nothing more specific than that. Surely I can ask it to find a road?
  • when you go to "cities" does it open up the next page with "(spell)" in the top box and a list of neaby places (to you that you recognise) in the lower pane???

  • yes it does
  • Doesn`t search postcodes.

From "find place", click toggle button (CTB) opens page with (enter region), (enter city) etc toggle down to (enter city) and CTB, opens next page with (spell) in top bit and a list of your local villages, CTB and spell which place you want, will come up with a list of places with that name (maybe only one)CTB, then enter number, tab down and enter street nsme, it1ll then list some streets for you to pick from with postcodes, click which one you want, and then you`ll get "save" "map" and "goto" at the bottom, do which one you want to do, map will show you were the place is on the map, got (on mine, just tried this) calculates you a route shown in pink, mine went off on some weird tangent via somewhere obscure, then finally arrived at the destination I`d put in !! It DID NOT do a turn by turn route like a car sat-nav does.

Never tried this before as I don`t use it like that, but maybe it`s a glitch in the software, or maybe it wasn`t designed to do the type of routing like a car sat-nav does? !

  • Well I'm suspecting a glitch  then because if i go to:
    Where to: toggle
    Find places: toggle
    Addresses: toggle
That's where is comes up with the three boxes, but when i try to fill ANY in it doesnt come up with anything. nada, zilch, zero.
  • When you get the 4 boxes page (enter region in top one etc) have you toggled down to (enter city) and then pressed the toggle button? comes up then with (spell) in top box and a list of your local towns?

Hi JohnnyAllez, I'm having the same problem as teamtalairan, and there are only 3 boxes showing:

    ENTER NUMBER
    ENTER STREET NAME
    ENTER CITY

Every time I enter something (CTB) 'None Found', pops up!

  • Just had a thought ! Mine has (regions) in top box, which when selected gives" England, Isle of man, Nederland,Scotland, Wales". Does yours have this or not? Could be down to which maps you`ve loaded onto your unit. I have got European Metroguide running on mine at the mo. along with an updated basemap (ripped from a Nuv 765T I`ve got)

If you don`t have the (regions) at the top, but have the other 3 boxes (enter city) (enter number) (enter street name) then highlight (enter city) and press the toggle button, do you get (spell) in the top window on the next page, with a loead of towns nearest to you shown in the bottom pane??

    No option for changing regions.
I have the latest basemap and 2010 city navigator maps.

If you don`t have the (regions) at the top, but have the other 3 boxes (enter city) (enter number) (enter street name) then highlight (enter city) and press the toggle button, do you get (spell) in the top window on the next page, with a loead of towns nearest to you shown in the bottom pane??
I get to spell, but no list appears below. If I persist and spell a city, once I toggle on it (CBT), 'None Found' appears in that box!

If I click cities, instead of addresses, then I get a list of cities when I click on 'spell'!
Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!
  • No idea what`s going on there, have you got your current location saved in? Without sitting here and going through EVERY setting on the unit, while you do the same there are so many variables, I wouldn`t know where to start.

Latest firmware updates from Garmin? Settings as detailed in that info page I posted on the other thread running near this? It could be something as simple as the maps you`ve uploaded to the unit from Mapsource not having a high enough detail selected properly or some other settings? Do you get the detailed map view on the map page if you zoom in?

    Everything else is fine...
I'll give up on the post code thing, as basically, I only use my bike for training, so never get of it, until I'm back on my drive!
It was justa curiosity that started getting the better of me.

    Cheer's, anyway

    Doesn`t search postcodes.
I am sure my 705 used to be able to search by postcode - this seems to have disappeared somewhere along the way upgrading the firmware (currently on 2.9, but I'm sure it used to appear on 2.6............not that I used it very often, but damn annoying it's now vanished).

A quick search on the Garmin forum reveals:
    DODGYDD wrote:
Menu ---> Where To? ---> Find Places ---> Addresses ---> type full postcode into the field that says <enter city>

You still have to put a number or letter into the "<Enter Number>" field to get a list of possible matches...........and then select the address you want and "Go To" before it calculates the route.

    Nope.... Still not happening. :(

  • I'm having exactly the same problem, the addresses option works perfectly on my City Navigator Europe UK & Ireland SD Card (including post codes). Yesterday I downloaded the France & Benelux to a blank SD card on my Edge and its doing what has been decribed in this forum - "none found". I have messed and checked with the settings but if it works for the UK version it should work for the F & B version.

Tried the above with postcode type into (enter city) on mine, doesn`t work I`m afraid, says "none found"

Weird.......I'm running City Navigator NT 2009 DVD and firmware 2.9 on the Garmin - maybe a bug in the Navigator 2010 release?

On Mapsource on your computer, where it says 'find places', do you get more options than 'city' to fill in? Does anyone? Can you not pinpoint a lane/road/street on the mapsource/computer, without physically looking for iton the screen? Have i not got a setting ticked?!
  • I`ve got 5 tabs in "find places", city, feature, address, intersection, postal code. Then "find nearby places" and "find recently found places"

Latest firmware is 3.1 I think?? Few bugs fixed from 2.9 ??

When you open everything up do you have a drop down box top left that gives you the option of the full mp (in my case City Select Europe) PC Base Map or no map. I think you may not have the full map selected.
  • Yes I can choose City Navigator NT Europe, Base map or no map ... and I have of course chosen Cty Naviagotor.

Plus on my Fiind function I only have 'Find Places', 'Find nearest places', and 'Recently' Found Places'

    Nothing else ....
  • Click on "find place" and then do you have the 5 tabs across the top with the items I listed?

I have the same issue with an Etrex Legend HCx running City Navigator 2010 (from a DVD). I can search for food places, intersections, etc., but the search for address always returns 'none found'. The search worked fine with the City Navigator 2009 that I previously had installed.
    More problems but still living....
  • Maybe that`s the issue here, I`m using City Navigator NT Europe V9 (this is called 2009.1 in Mapsource) looks like there is something with the latest version causing a problem.
