Garmin GPS Software

I had a PC crash recently which wiped most of my data files. However my Garmin Edge 205 software on my C Drive is still there and all my History data is thankfully still viewable. However the only thing missing is the maps you see of the area you have cycled. I can still see the line showing route or circuit I took when looking at the Map tab - it's just the actual map that's missing.

I have now downloaded the software from the disc to my wife's PC and all the same files and file sizes are there, but when I download the recent history still on my Garmin, I can see the maps on her laptop.

The strange this is that I can't see what file the Garmin data is saved into as both sets of Program files on the PC and laptop look the exact same.

I am concerned that if I down the software again to my PC from the disc, that although I may get the maps back, it may also overwrite my data. Anyone got any ideas about this?

    Hi

I'm not familiar with the software but I've had similar problems with other software before. I would take note of the location they are stored in and how to get there through windows
explorer the path should look something like this but won't be this

    e.g c:\windows\program files\Garmin\rides

then make a copy of them to your documents folder for example. Re-install your software and then copy the files back into the original location. Using

    c:\windows\program files\Garmin\rides

    to get back there.

Thanks finnj6 - the problem was I couldn't see any data file within the program files that were in a Garmin folder at the root of my c drive. However prompted by your post I decided to do a Search of the C drive for a file with history in the name and I found it under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data within a Garmin folder there. I backed up a copy and then re-installed the software CD. This only took seconds and hey presto - my maps are back.

I didn't need the back-up as the data wasn't overwritten - I didn't think it would be because of where it was, but better safe than sorry.

    Thanks again for your reply.
