when on my bike and riding in the normal riding position with hands on the brake levers, my arms are nearly straight and it feel like I am over stretching slightly  , the stem fitted is 6 degrees rise, 130mm long. I was thinking of changing the stem to say a 100mm long stem with same degrees? just noticed a ritchey stem 30 Degree rise for dialing in bar position? what does this mean? I do like the fact it rises fairly steep, this will give me more comfort and higher the bars slightly; also longest length is 90mm. advice on this would be great! please note the seat is in the more forward position and height set up is correct for legs!. I will ask one of the lads to have a look when on manchester wheelers intro bike club run in 2 weeks time. may be the case of getting use to the bike, only had it for 3 months. cheers

What size frame do you ride?

Doesnt really matter what frame size as it is expensive to change :D
See if you can borrow a 110mm stem to try first as 130 to 90 is a big change and a short stem may give you handling problems.

I'm just interested, as wanting higher bars means a frame too small, and wanting a shorter stem normally means a frame too big. Also if 130mm stem is what came with the bike it must be a big frame.

Anyway I agree with trying a 110mm stem, although a 100mm would probably be OK. I wouldn't recommend going from a 130mm -6deg stem to a 80mm +30deg stem though especially in one jump.

Have you tried flipping the current stem?
