Possible salt corrosion on chainring

Hi all. I have been trying to keep care of my first road bike, especially during these winter times. I have noticed that on my chainring, the cogs seem to have lost their black colour and coating, and they are silver on the tips. The rest of the bike seems OK, but I'm guessing the salt has corroded the cogs on the chainring? Is it likely to have an effect on changing chainring and gearing? Or is it likely to be cosmetic unless it gets really bad? I haven't noticed anything yet on my gearing and it seems to be as crisp as ever, but I will be extra careful cleaning them from now on.

Thx... Kanto

  • It's just the paint coming off. There's no stopping it, and it's definitely nothing to worry about.
