Jockey wheel questions

I've just got a pair of kcnc jockey wheels to go into a new ultegra sl (6600) rear mech. When I removed the upper jockey wheel I noticed that it has about 1mm of sideways float. The kcncs only move around half a mm.

My question is, are you supposed to keep the guide jockey wheel (top one) or will 2 kcnc's work ok?

Cheers

I think someone mentioned this a day or two ago and he said that the Shimano upper jockey wheel does "slide" sideways a bit. It's built like that for a reason. The poster mentioned that he thought it was patented and only Shimano could use the idea. So the aftermarket wheels don't have this sort of movement. Whether it's "critical" or not to have this is not clear(at least to me). In any case it would appear that the kcnc must work or they wouldn't sell. Personally I go with OE stuff. I know it will work.

I just had a sniff around and a guy in the mtb section of the forum uses them with no problems.

 well yes they would do. The "play" is the float and it's a good thing, it was the lack of float in the kcnc's that was the issue.
  • i usec kcnc ceramic jockey wheels all last season without any problem on dura ace 7800.
