New XC Frame

I'm in need of a new frame to replace my trusty old Scott Elite Racing (2002 vintage). She's been dinged :-( Quite a big ding on the underside of the down tube. Prob from a rock kicked up fromt he front wheel.
SO I'm after a sutable replacement. It's my 2nd bike and will only be gettign light(ish) se on XC type rides where I don't need my FS (Titus Motolite) and wet muddy winter rides to save some wear and tare on my FS.
I like the racey feel of the Scott and want it to be light, climb well and fun to ride.
I don't want to spend too much as it is my 2nd bike. I'm also against a 2nd hand frame if I can find a nice one.
I was thinking I may be tempted by carbon to give a slighly softer ride. I remember sombody posting about a Carbon frame they'd picked up very cheap which was a Scott Scale copy direct from the factory. In a similar vein to the Magic Shine / Lpne lights type deal.
Your thoughts ????

eBay 'carbon MTB frame', there are loads of frames cheap as chips from China, they appear to be the same frames sold under the 'Pedal Force' brand in the US, as well as being the frames sold by Massi and various other Euro brands.
I've got an 18" frame and it weighed 1240g, qualities better than I expected, admittedly not had a chance to ride it yet as I'm still waiting for a few bits, but they have a big following on Weight Weenies, and for £200 you can't go too far wrong!0 -
i'll have another look been looking on fleabay but didn't see any that cheap.
Just fond 'em
What travel forks are they set up for ?0 -
ive just had a nose through the places i had in my fav's from when i looked and see,s the places that had the frames for £220 all in have al;l gone up by close to that again!
i had an older version of the frame they sell, took an awful lot of abuse before it was the alloy drop out between seat and chain stay that gave way!!!Timmo.

Or what about an On One Scandal for £220?
Aluminium but reasonably light at 1600g and pretty abuse resistant.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4

or ragley blue pig at 250??
He said he wanted it to have -racey feel of the Scott and want it to be light,
Now I love the Blue Pig frames (ok, I designed them), but racey and light aren't words I'd use.
Thanks for the plug though :-)0 -
THanks guys. I was looking at the Blue Pig in a LBW on the weekend. It's heavier than my FS !!
Nice if you like that sort of thing but not for me bt thanks anyway.
So the fleabay Carbon frames for £200 are ok then ??0 -
Yeah seem to be! They ate the more modern version of mine which was an awesome bike but old carbon tech and came in at 4lb's, the newer ones are more 3lb,
There is a thread on mtbr forums about them that I got linked to when I was looking, will dig through our cornwall thread and try and find it for you, can build up to a proper light bike!!
I suggested the blue pig as have recently got a soul and Love the way it rides, figured as they are similar geo's and material would make a cracking bike! ( Good mate has just ordered an orange one through our lbs for a long travel HT after a bit of poking in that direction! !)
*edit*
here's the link to the mtbr thread on the carboin frames.

Urrrm im also looking for a new xc frame.
I was considering the kinesis xcpro , or xcpro2
Priced between £200-£300.
And it looks nice=)WOW really? Carbon Fibre Hubs?? Well how about chucking that kebab in the bin?0 -
there were some cracking deals on the kinesis frames on crc, the alloy with carbon seat stays is the one that springs to mind,Timmo.

Yeaaa i saw them in MTBUK, and i thought they'd be fairly expensive!!
Any idea what kinda travel there best used with??WOW really? Carbon Fibre Hubs?? Well how about chucking that kebab in the bin?0 -
No idea sorry! If I went that way it woukd have been built with a 100mm fork, as its an XC orientated frame I would have thought 100, maybe 110 max? Don't know??Timmo.

a quick look on crc suggests the maxlight xc120 has been designed for 100-120mm forks,
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=15099
the maxlight kenesium carbon pro is the one i was thinking of, thats suited to 90-100mm forks
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=10497
the std maxlight is just on the £200 mark, so the other two are comparitively good value as they are, if the size fits though!!Timmo.
