If it's good enough for the company to use .. then it's good enough for any person that buys a Laphierre They wouldn't sell it for such an amount and use ultra crap tyres .. that aren't up for the job .. afterall they put there bikes and all EQ use through testing well before it's even sold to the General public ..

Helpful colintrav!
Where do you ride? The standard list of 'all rounders' is Kenda Nevegals, Maxxis High rollers and Advantages, Panaracer Fire XC Pro, Schwalbe Nobby Nics. Probably some more.
Do you need tubeless?
Why don't you like the MKs? Too slow? Too slippy?0 -
Got Advantage 2.25 - useless in snow
Yet to see what they are like on dry dusty trails - oh to dream!0 -
Tyres are a minefield and very much personal choice. Some (me inluded)like Maxxis HRs,but i also get on with Nevegals.
Whether or not a manufacturer thinks the tyres are good enough for the bike is irrelevant if the person who buys the bike can't get on with the tyres.Having said that mess around with pressures first before writing the tyre off.I say this because i've hated tyres with 40psi in them but loved them with 30psi 8)
Also tubeless tyres feel different,or so i've been told.0 -
i reckon a tubeless2.35 high roller on the front a tubeless 2.1 highroller on the back
thats the set up im gonna put on mine0 -
I have Minions on mine. I didn't like the Conti's it came with."it rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again"0

I'll have the MKs off of you if they are still new(ish) and either protection or Speed king style.A Flock of Birds

Totally agree. No one should ever change the tires on their bike. They've been tested for that bike and are the best for the job. You should be grateful for what you're given. In fact no components should be changed. Why would you want to tailor the bike to your needs? Ridiculous idea.0 -

Very good."it rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again"0 -
wordy1979,
I bought my zesty 18 months ago and immediately had to remove the tyres, the were some sort of Michelin drys?? (I live in Wales and it rains allot!!)
I have tired Nobby Nics on my zesty at got on well with them as then were fast rolling and light. I'm currently running Panaracer Rampage 2.3 which are a fantastic trail tyre and really give confidence at he trail centres, not too heavy but not as fast as Nobby Nics and suffer in thick mud.
I'm gonna try tubeless 2.35 High Rollers next as they get good reviews and my mates swears by them.....
Hope you enjoy your zesty as much as I have, awesome bike…0 -
Thanks for all the answers, i think i might give the high rollers a whirl. Cheers.YOU ONLY GET ONE LIFE. . . . LIVE IT!0

It depends on usage too, like, a 714's a fine big trail beast but that doesn't mean everyone will be using it as a big hard hitter. But assuming you are, I'd have a nevegal 2.35 stick-e on the front and an excavator 2.1 on the back, and tubeless 'em. YMMV of course That'll be slow but great.colintrav wrote:If it's good enough for the company to use .. then it's good enough for any person that buys a Laphierre They wouldn't sell it for such an amount and use ultra crap tyres .. that aren't up for the job .. afterall they put there bikes and all EQ use through testing well before it's even sold to the General public ..
You're right, it comes with the best tyres in the world. And those other bikes that come with different tyres, they all come with the best tyres in the world too.

in fairness its all down to preference i reckon, i used to use some michelins that all the mags hated, yet i loved em, and until recently used some 10 year old panaracer smoke and darts they were awesome tyres and they arent even made anymore .........
besides the contis are lighter which i imagine is why so many people spec them, cos it makes the wieght seem lower than it actually is. and tbh the mountain kings seem to get mixed reviews and has anybody critiscising actually ever ridden conti tyres????0 -

I have, they were s**t But, you're right, they're light and they're quite fast as well, so they make a good first impression and if you slide around, you'll just think "I might replace the tyres"- but you'll not generally think "The bike's light because it has 500 gram tyres on"Uncompromising extremist0 -
I've put UST Panaracer Trailrakers on mine for winter and they're very good in mud, not so good on hard uneven surfaces where they ping about a bit and damn right scary on ice (then I guess everything is).
Want to put Minions on when the weather improves but they only come in 2.5 for UST and the 714 Zesty has quite narrow rims. The 2.4MK did fit ok. Anybody know if the 2.5 Minion DHF will be ok on the Shimano 778 rims?
The Race King rear was actually not bad in the winter mud, maybe because it's quite narrow but the front MK was definitely prone to suddenly slipping away from you. Maybe it will be fine in summer but once you lose confidence in a tyre, it's hard to get it back.0
