Hi,

I do a mixture of both road and off road with my bike and because of this I purchased a set of Specialized Fat boy tyres for the road.

I'm now thinking that swapping over the tyres constantly is a right pain and each time I do it I take another chunk of white pain off the rims.

So can anyone suggest some replacement rims and where to get them from? Should I look for another set of Alexrims?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Mark.

You'll need whole wheels, not just rims, but I'm sure that's what you meant.

You can go for whatever rims/wheels you want, www.merlincycles.co.uk are decent wheelbuilders.

Something like Mavic XC717 on XT hubs is the 'classic' wheel build. But it depends on your budget.

Ahh there shows my naivety of biking terminology!

And of course I’m going to need disks to go with them. Maybe I haven’t thought this through…I guess I’m going to be looking north of £200 for this luxury?

Charlie the Bike Monger and Woolyhatshop, (I think both have their own websites and ebay shops) have some very cheap wheelsets.
Yes, you will need a pair of discs to fit to them too. And a cassette if you don't want to be swapping that over each time.

Swapping wheels can be a pain too - discs need shimming, rebedding in, and often gears adjusting every time.

I'd buy yourself some nice new wheels, and keep the old ones for the old tyres.
