I like the idea of using helicopter tape to protect my frame, but sorry to seem a bit dim here, but what exactly IS 'copter tape? And more importantly, is it transparent? And once it is applied to a frame, am I right to say that it's permenant and that trying to remove it will paint strip a frame!??

    google "copter tape" for pics.

yes it is clear. yes it has some serious adhesive but it can with care be removed.

Cool, sounds like I should get myself a roll.

Within reason, is it also rainproof or will it just peel off after a few days in the rain?

    water has no effect.

be aware that if you have any impact marks in the paint which you apply it over the paint is likely to lift on removal what ever you try.

But the idea is once fitted you dont take it off.

I have had some on my bike for over a year and it has not peeled or cracked at all.
I heard you can remove it by heating it with a hairdryer to make the adhesive melt a little but I have never tried.
