Marchisio shimano spacers w/BBB campag cassette?

I have a touring bike with Shimano drivetrain (bar end shifters; rear mech, cassette) but have a few prs of lighter wt Campag wheels (I use on 2 other bikes) that I'd like to use from time to time. Just wondering if a BBB Campag cassette (which I understand has loose cogs) would work with Marchisio shimano spacers? Lot cheaper than buying a Marchisio cassette!

  • It will only work if the sprockets are the same thickness as Marchisio ones. You may also need a spacer to take up any slack in cassette height
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.

The difference in sprocket thickness between the two is only something like 0.1mm, so even across a whole cassette you'd still be in the adjustable tolerance. Highpath Engineering used to have all this info on their site, but doesn't appear to be live - but he'll still machine you up a set of spacers of the correct thickness for about £20. You can also use a Mirage, Veloce or Miche cassette too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I use opposite to you - 9 speed campag shifters and rear derailleur and shimano 9 speed cassette - on my winter bike, without any modification to shimano spacing and it works fine, so I guess it would work the other way around.

Difference in spacing is next to nowt, set the rear gear up so it lines up perfectly with the middle sprocket and the amount it is out on the first and ninth sprockets is small enough to make no difference.

You're right SheffSimon- it does work the other way around. I borrowed a 9 sp Campag cassette and it indexs fine with my Shimano bar ends. Thanks for the post!

Because 9 speed spacing was pretty much identical between Campag and Shimano. Different story with 10 speed ...
