If you don't have an acl, you need to generate stability in the knee by building up good strength in all the muscles in the leg and hip. This means you need to work up to (don't attempt this without a physio's or a coach's advice - if you try these from an untrained injured state, you'll do yourself damage!!!) doing full squats and deadlifts, and ideally some single leg variants of these exercises. Get some advice and a training plan.
