DT swiss rr 1.1 (now called 465?) / mavic open pro.
Anything to choose between them re durability / quality / ride?

If you talk to good wheelbuilders they are steering clear of Mavic rims these days. Quality has gone down hill.
A lot of them now use Ambrosio rims.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

i would say the dt rim is good. only guesing. double eyelet and welded but not to sure. some are single eyelet and have been known for the eyelet to pull out. dt 1.2 seem good and dfinitely welded joint.0

The new name for the DT rim refers to the weight, I don't know how accurate a claim it is though. OPs are claimed to be 435 g so a little lighter. I've used OPs and have always been happy with them.0

Those DT rims look nearly identical to Mavic Open Pro. I've never used them but I'd expect them to be functionally the same. Ambrosio Excellence is also much the same. My preference would still be with Mavic or Ambrosio, simply because I think there's a bit more chance of the same rim being available in a couple of years, when the wheel may need a rim replacement. Apart from that, I'd get the cheapest.0

And they're steering away from DT's too sadly. There's a theory that both mavic and dt are concentrating on their wheels at the expense of their rims.
My choice (replacing my open pros) would be IRD cadence or ambrosio excellence or excalight

Another good alternative is Velocity. Brick Lane Bikes in London have a good selection of them (about 10 minute walk from L'pool St Station). be careful not to get distracted by the other goodies they sellRecipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.0
