Tiagra is better than Sora- to be honest I have a bike with Tiagra and one with 105 10 speed. There is nothing between them.0

If you're gonna buy the brakes on there own, CRC has Ultegra brakes for £150

Hate to be picky here but that price is for one caliper only in Ultegra 6500(two models back)0 -
What groupset do you have already? (providing this isn't some mickey taking thread, which i suspect it may be).
No point in upgrading from Sora to Tiagra in my opinion, may as well save the cash and either upgrade to a top end group or buy a whole new bike and save the other for winterwinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

The Tiagra shifters are MUCH nicer... the Sora has a weird plastic button on the inside of the lever to change down... difficult to do on the hoods.
I would say Tiagra was the minimum you want on a decent road bike.2013 Focus Izalco Pro 2.0 UDi2

He's on about brake-set, anyway why not go up to 10 speed (105 eg) then it will all be compatible with Ultegra Dura-ace? You'll onlly wish you had
......And also only those with puny hands struggle, not if you have proper man shovelswinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Unfortunately, it is no mickey take, i am a newbie. I have what is standard on my spesh &
the brakes are a bit rubbish tbf, dont even know what make they are. It is the first thing i want to upgrade. the rest of the groupset are shimano 2300, entry level i think, will use all of these on my winter bike later on in the year.Special eyes 4 ever....0 -
The biggest improvement you will get for your brakes is to upgrade the pads, e.g.

What he says +1
However the 15quid for the Ultegra caliper is not bad price wise and a major improvement on sora and tiagra even if 2 models back.
However crappy cable outers and cheap levers can significantly reduce performance. If you want to improve your calipers and not the grouppo then you dont have to stay with Shimano.0 -
If you're upgrading part by part then how about these for a brakeset:-

Far lighter and better than ANY Shimano brakeset and with some decent pads as others have said you'll have a awesome set up.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
