Happy New Year folks. :D

The time is fast approaching for me to buy another bike through my cycle to work scheme and I have a number of ideas as to what I want.

However, can anyone tell me if there is anyone in Northern Ireland who does a professional bike fit?

I bought a Trek 1.9 last year which has been fine but as I get more and more into this cycling lark, I want to make sure I get fitted properly this time as I am currently on a 60cm frame but I think a 58 might do me!! I'm a bit of a lanky bloke at around the 6'4" mark but I always feel as it I am stretching just that wee bit too much on my current set up!!

Many thanks to any fellow Norn Irish folk who can help.

  • Thanks guys, didn't think of Chain Reaction as I've been in their shop and there was nothing to suggest it as they are more Internet based but I will call to see.

With regards to McConveys, I found them to be a shower of ****'s and were so unhelpfyl when I went in enquiring about a spesh before I got my Trek!!

    I'll keep looking!!

Madison cyles used to do a bike fitting service.Thats if there still going have not been home for about 7 years :( .
Keep the chain tight all the way.
  • seen a guy in having his bike fitted in CRC while browsing, guys seemed to really know what they were talking about, and were taking a long time over the whole operation.

Ben are you thinking of Madigans in Carrick? If so they are still going
  • Cheers DJ, I know Paul and have bought things from him before (not a bike as he is rather high end) but I didn't know he did a bike fit. I'll give him a shout and see what he can do.
I also agree with the McCovey issue, as mentioned previously, very unhelpful!
    Thanks to all who helped.

Madigans make a big deal about their fitting service, however they measured me when I wanted to get back in the saddle a couple of years ago as a 54", then when he realised he had nothing in stock that size tried to flog a 50. He didnt get the business then or when I upgraded a few months ago.

McConveys magically measured me as a 54 just by having a quick glance at me standing there in my work suit....... Did buy my Spesh Allez Elite from them tho because limited to the one shop via CTW Scheme, but wouldnt go back TBH.

Have only been in CRC in Doagh once and whilst didnt get measured was pretty impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm they showed

Did you have any issues before you had the fitting if so where they resolved?, was your old set up much different to the new set up?

Hi . Yes after 30/40 minutes I would have had pins and needles in my hands and stiff neck. My position actually wasn't that far out . My saddle was moved 6 mm further back and the height increased by 5 mm, bars were rotated and saddle angle changed. He also changed my cleat position. The difference has been amazing. I was hesitant about spending the money on a fit but would have to say its the best money I have spent

I had a bike fit done in London by the Cyclefit team about three years ago after explaining to them the reason i was there, knee problems they started the fit and also recommended custom orthotics, and cleat lewedges I also had to buy a smaller stem and change my pedals & cleats. well it took about 1.5 hours and i was really looking forward to getting home to transfer the new dimensions on my bike,

Well after all was changed i was off and cycling and after about half an hour i was getting pains in my hands shoulders and the knee pain was a lot worse so i persevered for about two weeks so i rang Cyclefit and they told me to keep persevering for another few weeks if the comfort did not improve go back to your old position and try that so i did and the pains vanished but the knee pain was still there, so i went back to my old cleats and used the lewedges with them it improved the knee pain a lot but i was still in pain after every ride.
So i tried several cleat and pedal set ups and the best i have found are the Shimano SPD SLs but recently the knee pain has come back so after reading the posts here and else where i thought i would like someone to look at my bike and cleat set up again as i thought the Cyclefit in London was a complete waste of time and money.

Roe Valley Cycles in Limavady do Retul bike fits if you're in the North West (could be worth the drive up even if you're not - some nice kit in stock to admire!)

CRC both stores in Belfast and Doagh also do bike fits. One is £60 (Enthusiast FItting) and the Retul 3D Motion Fitting is £175. Shoe/Cleat fitting is £25.

I think it's Chris McCann of Inspired Cycling who does the fitting for Chainreaction. In my case the cleat fitting was included in the Retul fitting price.

I`m thinking of goign to CRC for the Retul fitting and have a few questions,
    1. If something needs changed will that be done at the same time, then just pay for the component or will I have to get that done at a later date.
    2. I would take it that it would be better to go to the Doagh store as they carry more stock if something has to be changed.
    3. How long does it take.
    4. Is it really worthwhile and will I see a difference.

I would imagine if you are looking for the guy CRC use Chris Mc Cann i believe, who is doing the Retul fitting for you to fit any new parts to your bike that he would be using up valuable time that he should be spent doing the fitting process, Are you not better to visit Chris mc Cann here and cut out the middle man. http://www.formecoaching.com/chris%20mccann.html

These guys have started doing Retul in Belfast (I just contacted Sean and he replied in a matter of 10 mins with loads of questions).
£175 is the cost. If these are more local for you it might be worth checking
