Removing Laquered-over decals?

I recently got some really nice carbon forks that have a big, horrible avocadoy green sticker on each leg. I can't just peel them off as they are lacquered over. Is there any way to get rid of them without leaving an ugly mark on the legs?

If you are careful, cut round the outline of the sticker with a scalpel, then peel the sticker off. You will be left with a patch with no lacquer on. Best bet is to cover sticker up with another sticker.
