i have just got a new stem for christmas, which has a longer steerer clamp area. it is this stem: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=38640 and the bike is a rockrider 5xc, which isn't made anymore, but is basically the same as this, but with better brakes and other stuff: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/rockrider-5-3-34963817/
when i bought it i thought it would be alright, as there were 2 spacers under my original stem, but even with the spacers out, the top of the stem is about 5mm above the top of the steerer tube. does this matter? i refitted the original stem and found that the top of the stem was about 3mm above the top of the steerer tube - so is a little bit ok?
thanks

As long as the top clamp bolt of the stem is still clamping onto the fork you should be OK.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    ok thanks
it's below the top bolt of the steerer tube so it should be fine.
