I know there has been plenty of threads on wheels but Merlin have some cracking deals for a period of time. I am approx 200 lbs and want to upgrade to a strong pair of wheels for summer use sportives etc. Was looking to see if anyone had any of these and can reccomend a winner. budget was up to £500, cheers.

  • Dang you guys get some cheap deals on bits....

I'm not quite your weight, at about 185 lbs, but I have two sets of Mavic Ksyriums, one is the SSC SL and the other is the Elites, and they are both strong and reliable. I've done a few thousand k's on the SL's, and they've been bomb and idiot (me) proof.

My LBS owner is a bloke who is frequently recruited by Shimano to be their on site mechanic at major race meets, and he does not recommend the Dura Ace wheels for the, ahem, more substantial riders.

He does reckon the Fulcrums are excellent wheels too. I'd go for either the Mavic's or the Fulcrums. No idea about the other things.

I had this decision to make after few broken spokes on wheels that were OK (?) for heavy riders.

At 90kgs I took advice and looked Mavic Ksyrium SL Premium or the Fulcrums 1 or Zero - LBS were offering a very good deals on both at the time. After much thought and talking with the guy in the LBS I went with the Mavic, best buy I have made - fantastic wheels

i weigh 90 kg and got the Fulcrum Racing 1. Very happy with them. Mavics may be good wheels as well. Just don't have any experience about them.
