Seized pedals in carbon cranks, help!
Got some new Ultegra pedals from Santa, problem is I can't get the old ones off! The cranks are carbon cannondale Si and I have tried a decent pedal spanner, WD40 and a 2 foot long ratchet attached to the hex hole on the pedal, all to no avail.
Any ideas??
(Yes, I am turning in the right direction before you ask.)

Some seeping oil might work?0

Have put some on to soak overnight, otherwise I'm off to LBS on Monday where no doubt they will whip them off in an instant. :oops:0

dont forget the left pedal turns anticlockwise to undo when looking from the hexkey side.0

a 2ft ratchet should be more than enough. double check you are loosening to the back off the bike for both sides.0

Thanks for all the advice folks!
I finally swallowed my pride and brought the 'dale to the LBS. They too were defeated by the remaining pedal until they unleashed their secret weapon, about 17 stone of bike mechanic armed with the biggest pedal spanner I have ever seen - pedal off!
I only hope my bottom bracket has not been traumatised too much0 -
Use some anti seize on new pedal threads:

Alumslip

But NOT Copaslip

Hope they put some grease on the threads of new pedals :-)
You can alwyas try opposite direction first a it can often loosen thread enough to slacken afterwards.
I worked in a coal mine so was used to trying to undo large rusted bolts with long levers and always tightened first.
Can also try putting the usual oil or diesel into the thread, I also sometimes uded a hair dryer to warm joing as pedal and crank will be different metal.
Hope your bottom bracket ios not weakened !!0 -
plumbers also do the tightening trick on copper cylinders to save ripping the top out . the soft copper can just rip away.0

You will find the tightening trick also works on pickled onion and gherkin jars0

I found That by slipping an alloy garden rake handle over my pedal spanner - I can get enough power to get any naughty pedal off. It was the only thing I used my rake for.... :oops:0

Nowt wrong with Copaslip - got a big tin of the stuff and use it for any bolt liable to seizure - worked fine for me for a few years now.0
