  • I picked one up as well over the weekend.

Reba Race went on (kindly put on by Pauls themselves for free) and then off to Thetford (the un-blackest run I think I have ever done!), apart from the flat bars (which I couldn't get on with at all!) ran really smoothly.

I think the brakes may need bleeding, but I seem to remember reading something about them previously....

Just got to get a pair of risers on it now.

And try and avoid scratching the upgrade itch!

Nice.. were your Rebas new? Mine came of my Boardman so only enough length left in the steerer tube for the main (tapered) spacer.. the riser bars have compensated a bit so hopefully it should still be comfy - if not I might have to look at a stem with a bit more of a rise..

My Juicys are a bit spongy too so will look at bleeding them soon.. if I don't swap my Elixirs over to it..

Can you do me a favor, can you please measure me the height of the standard tapered spacer and also how many headset spacers it usually has?

    Cheers

I'll try and remember to measure it tonight.. think the conical spacer was about 30-40mm..

The photo on the Giant site actually shows the bike with just the conical spacer on it..

Rebas came from my Genesis Hardtail, they had to remove a couple of spacers, so the bars are a little low, and them being flat doesn't help. PLus can't seem to get the hang of steering with flats. My old risers will go on prior to the weekends ride in Swinley (if I can avoid work either day)

I'm not impressed at the moment with the Juicy 3s.... but think that a bleed may sort them out (well I hope it will!)

Looking forward to pimping it a bit now!

If you can measure the standard tapered spacer and the other spacers that fit on it it would be great.

My spacer is 22mm or 23mm on it's own.

***** Big 'heads-up' for anyone who wants an X3.. Behind The Bikeshed in Andover has the medium available for, wait for it, £750!! *****

You will probably have to ring to buy it because it says that it's out of stock.. I emailed them about it at the start of the month but they never came back to me until just now - and have confirmed they have it.

Rarther gutted as that's £200 cheaper and they would've been close enough for me to collect! :(

Oh well, easy come easy go.. hopefully someone will get a bargain!
  • i ride mine with flats and really enjoy it, granted i havent ridden any trail centres on it yet so will have to see how that goes. i cant quite get used to wide risers. should i put some on and persevere, are they much better, everyone seems to be using them....i'm so "uncool". any advice?

I guess it depends on what feels best and most comfortable for you.. when I moved from my 10 year-old Giant to the Boardman the bars felt silly wide at first, but I soon got used to them.

Getting onto the X3 with narrow bars just seems too cramped and the steering less controlled to me.. but if I'd gone to the X3 from my old Giant I probably wouldn't have noticed..
  • i might give it a for a week or 2 and see if i get used to them and if they feel better. are there any major advantages to using either or is it just preference?

have been out much on your new steed? are you enjoying it?
