Ultegra SL Cranks and BB - Coming Loose
When I got on the turbo trainer today (
bl**dy snow), I noticed some play in the cranks. It turned out that the bottom bracket cups were both a bit loose.
Bike is 13 months old and has done maybe 2,500 miles, is this normal?
Anyway I had the tools so fixed the problem, applying the 35-50 nm torque that the Shimano tech docs specify (probably about as much as I could easily apply with Halfrauds Hollowtech tool).
Also, what is the point of the "stopper plate"? This is so flimsy, I would not think it has any mechanical or safety benefit.
Thx

The stopper plate stops the 5mm Allen key bolt coming loose. As for the BB cups loose. Was the crank arm tight? Might be best to remove the cups clean inspect and refit. Prepare threads of shell with either grease, anti-seize, or a mild thread locker.
