Whilst our for a blast on Saturday, I noticed that my left stanchion (as i look at it on the bike) had a gun metal paste / grease on it - someone told me that my seals were shot but it hasn't happened since. Whats the crack wit hit forks still work fine do i need to strip them or send them in for a service or what ? can any one advise ? :(

  • Unless you have noticed a difference in the performance of your fork I would just keep and eye on it. Clean off any existing grease etc and take it out for a ride whilst doing a visual check every now and again. If you find the problems repeats itself then chat with your local bike shop otherwise you may find that one of your mates has slapped the grease on to wind you up!!
  • OK cool thanks for the info - ill go for a blast around my local trails and see what its like. there are some jumps there, I can see what there like after them :D - i did land quite hard on the forks at the w/e maybe that had something to do with it...

Personally if there's a substance like that on yer fork legs I would be inclined to think that the wiper seals are indeed shot and this is causing an influx of dirt/grit into the fork legs, that when compressed is forced back out past the seals.

Unless your confident in servicing them yourself it's LBS time
  • or cut out the middleman and send them off to tf tuned, you'll get upgraded bushings and seals as part of a standard service and they'll set it up for you.
