Are you minor , moderate or heavy drinker .or you only a once a month drinker . or do you only drink at certain times of the year

Well there was a point where I drank every night of the week and on my days off I spend them in my fav bar in town .. from 3 ish then about 7 pm went for walkabout then head back and stayed till closing time ..

Though since I have changed jobs I don't drink as much like every night of the week though the past week Ive had a drink every night this week so far ..

Also what is your definetion of binge drinking .,,.?
Is it

A -going to the pub at 9 and staying there till closing

B - doing it proper stylee by drinking the whole weekend go out get p.i.shed fall asleep wake up then start again ...

C - startin once you have finished work and carrying on right through to the next day ... of mid day or later .. depending on how much you can handle your drink though not stoppin for any sleep

As above, when I go out drinking, I don't mess around. I only drink once a week but that's enough for me (apart from this last weekend which I am just starting to recover from)

I don't go out for '1 pint' it's not worth it, I get the taste for more. I'd rather stay in and drink tea, which coincidently is what I am doing now

    :D
  • heavy drinking, most nights........don't do it, it makes you feel like crap

Been to the pub tonight, but work tomorrow, so just J2Os! If I go out at the weekend I'll drink a moderate amount, drunk, but not paraletic, no memory drunk.

But I don't have a night like that every weekend, probably every 2 to 3 weeks. If I'm staying in at the weekend I might have a beer or two in the evening.

    Moderate.

Binge drinking I would say is more than 5 pints in a short session of say 3 hours. Doesn't sound much, but enough to give a lot of people liver probs if done repeatedly....
  • 12 cans every weekday - minimum. Sometimes 16 or 20. I adapt my diet to accomodate this. I still have a better grasp of spelling and punctuation after 12 cans than the majority of the population

Binge drinking is drinking enough to make you sick and not something I'd advise.

  • I hardly drink anything these days but that's compared to when I was at uni and pretty much spent 5 years drunk. And I definitely never drink on a school night, except I was at a conference yesterday and we went out afterwards. Rolled in at 1 and now I have to go back for day 2 to sit in a chair and listen to people talk about engines. I am HANGING

    Don't drink anymore.

Had some pretty hairy times wen I was 15-18, stopped in my first year of uni and haven't been able to handle my drink since, I get the hangover before the second pint  Not that I miss it too much, have alot more money :D

As has been said, 'Binge drinking' is drinking enough to make yourself ill. IMO if the hangover lasts past he first hot drink of the day; you have been binge drinking.
  • generally when i feel like it. I don't need it, but there are times it suits occasions. Money saved is worth it to spend on other things I enjoy more, bikes, music, etc

When you guys are saying "enough to make you ill", do you mean enough to feel ill/unwell, or to throw up!?

I "binge drink", officially it's anything more than 3 pints in one session, or something like that. But I don't get blind drunk, and I seem to have a self control mechanism, when it gets late I start going to the bar for water automatically.

well ive only ever been sick once so clearly not enough :lol:

if i go to a house party ill have 6-8 pints, then move on to vodja and coke for the rest of the night :D
  • Binge drinking is when you have as much to drink as your body can cope before either being ill or passing out.
I've never been able to drink that amount! Even 17 pints one Paddy's day saw me carrying a friend home.
I rarely drink these days. I have the occasional drink at home, and then on average go into town once every two months. I just can't afford it more often than that. I do go to the pub every Friday and Sunday evening, though that's just for a coke or fanta or something as i'm driving.

I don't drink any where near as often as I used to and often will only have a couple fo beers or a few wee whassssskies....

my definition of binge drinking is when i drink all the drink in the house (including that weird bottle of horrible stuff with the lizard in it that tastes like death..) then go out looking for more....

Trouble is, my hangovers have gotten progressively worse as i have hit my thirties, so I often choose to hold back on the bev so that i can enjoy my weekend days more....

I used to drink a lot. These days I'll have a few glasses of red wine with meals over the course of a week, and a beer or two at the weekend.

I just can't bring myself to drink excessively any more.

i must be gay, i used to drink a bucket load when i was a nipper ( thats over 18 ) before anyone jumps on the bandwagon!

Now i actually do not like the taste of alcohol. Far rather go out and enjoy myself on diet cokes or the equivalent.

Sure i don't shirk my responsibilities on buying rounds, but i don't miss going out and spending a 3rd worlds economy on a night out! + the mornings after resemble car crashes

I drink at least 6 pints a night and have to get up at 5am to go to work. That was until last Friday when the only pub in town that isn't inhabited by pikeys, drug dealers and 35 year old "loose" single mothers decided to bar me.

Come on all I did was get my old fella out at the bar and tell the landlord to suck on it after he suggested I had one too many. 8 pints and 14 Jagerbombs is certainly not one too many.

Therefore I am now drinking a couple of cans at home each evening and my weekend will be spent in Brighton.

My god I miss the White Horse................Alex I'm sorry dude!!!!

It's how it affects you that determines whether you're an alcoholic or not and whether you can stop drinking on a dime. If it starts affecting your life in any way then you've got problems that need addressing. The flip side of that is how long you do it for, it's an extremely dodgy road to be on, especially if you've got any family history of addiction or alcoholism.

No history of alcoholism, however I did have a slight cocaine addiction for about 4 years (socially though, I never robbed anyone for drug money and got a 2:1 whilst high as a kite).

Nah seriously I had my heart broken in October (still not quite over it yet), then my grandad was told he had two weeks to live after it took the doctors 18 months to realise he had cancer, then he died, then my uncle ended up in hospital (still in intensive care), then my best friend announced he was leaving the country, then my cousin announced he was leaving the country with his awesome wife and kids (we are all very close), then I almost lost my job to the frigging recession, and I haven't even done any Christmas shopping yet!!!

So if anyone is allowed to get drunk everyday then its me!!!

    Oh and maybe Tiger Woods.

I would disagree with you there, but probably only your very first sentence.....i will agree however that there are functioning alcholics and non-functioning alcholics.....and probably a range in between....

Only take about a bottle a fortnight, but was into it when I was teenager. Woke up one Christmas morning in my girlfriends mother's wardrobe - after binge with St Albans Rugby Club and Italian meal - having used it as a toilet. And I don't mean a wee-wee...

JohnPThat's a bad run of luck there, I can join you with the first one, it's horrible. The rest, well I'm fortunate enough not to have been in any of those situations.

Tiger woods is a rich, succesful, celfish sock, I think the wife should be drinking, not him! Unless he's scared of losing a billion $ or so in court I suppose!

    From http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Alcohol-mi ... ition.aspx
It is also possible to drink hazardously by ‘binge-drinking’, even if you stick within your weekly limit. Binge-drinking is when you drink an excessive amount of alcohol in a short-space of time – 8 units in a day for men, 6 units in a day for women.

Seeing as a pint of lager is roughly 2.8 units, any more than 3 pints in 24 hours is a 'binge'......officially. So I'd imagine nearly everyone binge drinks, sticking to the strict definition.

As for "it's not alcoholism if it doesn't affect you". That's a load of rubbish! If you're drinking a bottle of vodka every day in order to not show that something is wrong, and to appear 'normal', then you've clearly got a problem. But you could say that it's not affecting you. And it's possible to be a problem drinker but not be an alcoholic. Whether or not you're addicted, drinking lots of alcohol is (unfortunately) not good for you.

In what way do you disagree, mr cee.
  • Very rare or me drink now, but when I do it's usually a fair old session, used to go to pub with mates every Friday back in sixth form but not anymore, maybe once or twice a month for a big session. aving said that I may have to drink pretty heavily at the weekend as I am going to a girlfriends families birthday and I don't really want to be there as they are quite scummy, and a little bit racist (too much daily mail) so I'll have to drink through it.
