hey folks,

my names Dave im 24 and from fife in scotland :)

been into bike for years and years but passed my test 5 years ago and kinda gave up on them.

recently though i have found a new love for bikes and ended up buying myself a cheap hack, namely a carrera kraken (unsure of year as it was 2nd hand but possibly 07/08)

anyway, now that ive proved to myself that i can stick at it and use the bike more than the car, ive decided to upgrade.

the bike in question is a Scott Scale 35 2010.

which hopefully (if i hear good things on here) ill be looking to purchase in the new year.

one of the main reasons for this bike particularly is the carbon frame (and its also withing budget)

im really rusty with specs etc as ive been out the game for a good while so if you dont mind heres a link to it and let me know what you guys think?

http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... scale%2035

thanks alot

Davy

Welcome to the forum Davy. Assuming it's the right type of bike (it's very racey) for you it looks great.

If you're spending that much money I'd encourage you to test ride it first. I also wouldn't trust the weight quoted on the link
  • yea 2.35lb is a bit optimistic :)

i guess thats frame only weight?

i doubt theres anywhere near me that will have one in stock?

    possibly edinburgh?

Yeah, Edinburgh is probably your best bet - there's a couple of Scott dealers there. I know Dales in Glasgow is a large stockist of Scott bikes, but depends on whether you're willing to travel down there? Give them a ring, see if they've got one and arrange to go in, as when you're paying top dollar for a bike like that, you want to make sure it fits!

EDIT: And obviously, as per your link, Evans Cycles in Glasgow!
    Winter: Moda Nocturne
    Road: Cervelo R3
    'Cross: Ridley X-Night
    Commuter: Genesis Day One
  • Thanks matey :)

yea Glasgow shouldnt be a problem

like i say not till the new year so something else may crop up between now and then

but will deffo go have a shufty!

    :)

    Davy

edit: oh nice one! didnt even realise they had a shop up this way!

    welcome along.

cant comment on the bike except for the fact it is very much an xc race type bike so definately as mentioned above, make sure you get a test.

then make sure you post some pictures for us all to perv on.
  • Great choice of Bike as the guys said very racey and well specced bike have you thought about an 09 model. I have just changed to Scott and have fallen in love (again) use my for a mixture of trail and road dont think I could of picked a better bike. all the best
    So Far!
  • thanks guys :)

estevens, yes i looked at the scale 35 09 (which is £400 cheaper) and is also an option for me!

as advised id like to see them in the metal (or should that be carbon lol)

as stated im really rusty with me specs, could you take a look at both on evans (the 2009 vs 2010) and tell me if there is much difference in spec? (specs something im working on gaining my knowledge back again )

    thanks

i'm no expert but i would get an 09 version of any bike at the moment, prices for 2010 models are just crazy, personally i don't see £400 difference in those two bikes, the only thing i see is a weak pound and everyone getting stiffed with 2010 bikes....
  • The frames seem to be the same other than colour, personally can not see £400 difference other than newer models ie avid juicy 3 / avid elixir. Personally I would go with the 09 I am sure you can get a better saving than that but you will need to scan the net and check the usual places.
    So Far!
  • thanks folks,

any suggestions on decent places to buy/check out?

evans was a real draw due to the points system they run which meant i could get other bits and bobs for free 8)

ask evans for a deal, i just got a bike off them, 2009 model, reduced from £1899 to £1499 and i got it for £1399 !! all you got to do is ask them and they will do you a deal..but be quick, the 2009 models are getting harder to get because of the prices of the 2010 models..
