Okay so this is basically how it arrived other than the white bars/stem

Very nice.
What colour is it going to beSuffering from the light bike fat git syndrome.0 -

Is that a white KMC chain? where from?!
Good choice on bars/stem ... solid as hell!0 -
No pasta and tomato sauce, it was three sausage pasta bake...
I got the KMC chain from the moore and large rep when he came round i think. The bars are amazing, 700mm wide mean i can hump the thing up hills really easily.0 -
RW: looking good.... loving the colour theme....
Are you gonna get the frame resprayed? Did you do some of the spraying yourself?
Gonna look great when she's built up, nice componentry choices, and those rims would look great on my Marin0 -
Yeah, the frame will be powdercoated in the new year, got new stickers to put on then helicopter tape.
The small parts i sprayed myself.
My fav part so far are probably the sapim spokes, the cx-ray look great.0 -

Nice one, you've done a great job there on the spraying, I restored a retro Marin stem a while back, even put it in the oven for 45 minutes to bake it, came out a treat
Did you use a clear coat over the top for durability? I did on the stem, pretty tough finish, I think if I hadn't, any knock and the paint would have chipped off to easily.....
Gonna look great when built up... 8)
Defo need new grips though0 -
this is going to be pimped! like the colour scheme, going to get dirty pretty quicly though! I bought some spank white lock on grips the other day and they are ace, might be worth a look if you don't have yet!
What are you doing for forks? or are you sticking with the original On One ones?- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -
Are you putting lefty forks on there? it says further up you've got a letfy wheel?!0

the steerer would be the wrong size.- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0

oh my peeps, you're too excited, lets see some forkage:
option a
or option b
now i know the lefty shouldn't fit, but i'm getting a custom steerer machined, so it could fit, however given the rear wheel is lighter than the lefy front, and the sids are lighter than the lefty, i might not, other than for a bit of a change every now and again.
On the painting, 2 coats of primer to get it even, sanded inbetween with 1200 paper, 3-5 coats of white gloss sanded with 1500 paper, then 2-3 coats of lacquer not sanded other than for any drips. Bars and stem arrived white, the grips are also the spank ones, but they really didn't last well.
As for getting it dirty, that's kindof the point... go mud plugging on a sparkly white bike, then clean it up afterwards... Must get some white waterproofs!
I'd love a set of these to wear with it:
Eventually I'll also get some white hoses for the brakes, as the white cables looked ace on the inbred originally! Also, when the bike shop i work at starts doing scott, i might try and blag some of the white tyres for it, just for photo shots!0 -
-
there will definitely be a lefty photoshoot, but then I think the lefty will be relegated to the rat bike, unless is it astonishingly good.
Or maybe I'll just sell it on.0 -
-
I was thinking that, the issue is the rubber boots though, and the wheel which is silver.
The boots cannot be sprayed nor can the bumper so i'd need to find something to make them white with, or some sort of proxy for them in white. Other than that, i'd be up for stripping them and painting them white, it isn't too hard to disassemble the lefty. Other than the 1.5mm allen key it's all fairly standard tools.0 -
Without doubt the sid race, have them on the Marin and they are superb, I think the lefty would look odd, and requires a LOT of faffing.... SIDs all the way0
-
Looks like this is going to be nice
While you're at it why not get rid of the rack/mudguard mounts. I like the disc brake mount between the stays...similar to the ragley frames....
Can you move the hose guides under the top tube like the newer inbred frames? Would make for smoother look....0 -

sort of similar to on-one frames... odd that- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0 -
yes I realised that after I posted. I have the non slidy dropout version, never occurred to me that they were different. I wish mine had that mount as it's much neater...0

Hmmm....not too sure about those red bits on the brakes.......Commencal Meta 5.5.1

I've ridden it with the sids, and i do like them. The lefty will be converted to 1 1/8" just for kicks (plus the 1.5" steerer is now knackered from the hammering!) and i plan on trying it, I'm still undecided, it would make for a cool hack bike though!
Removing the rackmounts is a bigger job than removing the v-bosses as it involves filling the frame, might remove the eyelets from the dropouts though as that's a simple angle grinder job!
Not going to move the hose guides as i do a fair bit of portage and the lines are clean with them there.0 -
By the way I am considering a build which would require adjustable travel white forks. My ideal forks would be Talas 100-120-140 QR15s but they are unfortunately grey (quite why one of the biggest fork manufacturers in the world can't offer colour options I don't know) so at the risk of being called a "fashion tart" what are the alternatives? Is it true the Magura Thor has some adjustment?Commencal Meta 5.5.1

you can get fox forks in white, could you swap the lowers?- Kona Hot '96 - Marin Rift Zone '09 - Cannondale Synapse Carbon '06 - Kona Caldera '98 - Kona AA '94 - Dawes Kickback II - Cannondale BadBoy '11 - Genesis iOiD SS -0

On the disc mounts, it's a double edged sword. You have issues with calliper clearance which can be a huge pain. But you don't need chain tugs, the disc braking wont move the rear wheel like it does with a traditional setup, and you can get the wheel out easily without removing the calliper0
