What have I done?

Having spent way more than I originally intended on my steed, I had nothing left for all the other stuff a cyclist needs.... clothes, shoes, helmets lights etc. Oh, and definitely nothing left for a winter bike!
I have started to gather the ancillary kit but a combination of no lights and bad weather has meant my daily commute opportunities have been restricted. So today, having not had a ride for two weeks (no sniggering), I just couldn't resist the urge to cycle. Man, what a filthy ride. Me and the 'dale were soaked and covered in muck and the 'orrid sounds coming from the bike had me flinching with each rotation of the pedal. When I bought the bike, I also got a load of muck-off products included. I haven't used this before because I had come across some elderly comments about muck-off saying it caused paint to come off. Anyway, I had no real choice today and have hosed down, sprayed with muck-off, hosed again, used a soft brush to remove the stubborn bits and finished off with some of the post wash muck-off products (bike spray and chain-lube).
Has anybody had any recent bad experiences with muck-off products?

Muc-Off products are fine. The internet will seed and feed any paranoia possible. You can do just as well with car shampoo or washing up liquid (the "salt" is no issue), and degreaser where necessary.0

This stuff does the same job as Muc-off for half the price- it's the same (pink) colour too.

I use Muck-Off in my chain cleaner and on my cassette etc, then I use car shampoo for washing the rest of the bike. The Muck-Off bike spray seems to be pretty good for an after-wash treatment too.
 I'd really avoid washing the bike Washing Up Liquid as they contain salt and that's what you're trying to get off the bike anyway. The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle. ...Stapp’s Ironical Paradox Law

Muck off wont make your paint come off unless you use a brillo. You have not deprived or hurt your 'dale. He or she will be be happy to have been washed so soon after. But if you hear tapping from the shed at night it will be the 'dale wanting to come in out of the cold. Be strong and say No!.
