Replaceing cables on X7 shifters

Just managed to get a set of X7 shifters, 2nd hand but mint condition. I want to change the cables when I get them, is there any info on how to, I thought I heard that you have to take them apart to fit. is this true?
I have spare set of Goodridge (which have been great) which I want to fit on the Kona.
