have had three punctures in the last three weeks, any advice on tires- inflation pressures and generally ways to avoid!!

Marathon pluses, run them as soft as you can without getting pinch punctures.

Float over obstacles in the road rather than riding over them. (Ie unweighed the bikes)

Avoid old tyres. Cluster of punctures usually means the tread is thin.
