wont have it till around jan/feb time :(

the banshee does me fine, i need to focus on my schooling atm so i can hopefully go out mtbing as part of my job! luckily i am getting the highest marks possible for the outdoor adventurous activities lessons and some occasions teach the lesson!

i should be buying my dads xc bike off him (used 10 times in 7 years) so i think a 100 notes is good for its condition, upgrade the forks, stem, handlebars, seatpost, seatpost clamp, saddle, rimms and tyres, keep disc on front and v on back, change the crank arms and pedals, its got some retro shimano shit on there so it looks pucka!

might to a retro ish build with halo freedom discs XD

I used to ride a standard banshee for XC ... MTFU and just ride the bike you've got for XC = £100 extra pounds

I take payment via paypal ... £100 should cover the advice i gave you to sa :D ve £100

benj wont be till jan feb as the rents have said as theyre letting me get the imac i have to save up double the amount it would cost so i still have money after ive bought it.

halfway theyre so not long, just another 1k to go :(

with the other k i will have after purchase, decent pc speakers! (can any one recomend some) online please?

    grab a new memory stick

    maybe an ipod
  • ahhh.... i thought it was because they were out of stock or something!

Personally I think 2k is a waste on a mac that you're never going to use to its full potential...
I'd get a MBP and a screen.... that way its portable, powerful and looks smart :)
  • it only costs 1k but i need 2k due to the agreement with the rents

To be fair if you are just surfing then a PC is the cheapest way.

I am a mac addict and have 3 at home. I use them for business though and push a couple of them with video and creative work. If you are doing this sort of stuff you really then understand how they are better than PC's.

Don't get me wrong they are better at everything IMO but they are more expensive solution. But if you can afford it its worth it.

  • I used to use Macs for creative work because then they had the monopoly with Adobe creative products (im on about ~1994 whn I started). I'm a Graphic Designer (Print) and in no way now is a Mac any better than a PC for print/web design. I have not used one since Adobe migrated to the PC. I am talking sense here, not trying to be inflammatory. I used to have a Mac next to a PC in my office for different apps, now I just have the PC.

Macs have the whole myth of being for 'designers only' - horseshite!!! They look nice granted and have a more stable OP. But that's it.

PCs are cheaper all around. And you can get a top spec one for HALF of the cost of that 4XJ - that's daylight robbery.

JUST DONT BUY FROM DELL = shite customer service
  • You'd be hard pushed to buy a computer these days without built in wireless.

TBH, you could get a really good spec, small laptop, with a big monitor, keyboard and mouse for a lot less than £2k. That way, you've got the power and the big screen, but if you want you can also stick the laptop in a bag and take it with you/wander around the house/garden with it.

  • Do not buy any extra RAM from apple! Seriously, they rip you off soooo much. you could save yourself a couple of hundred pounds if you buy it from somewhere like dabs.com. RAM is a piece of piss to install yourself too - there's nothing else you can do with an iMac other than install RAM.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I agree regarding the designer only thing - b0ll0cks(I own both Mac and PC - alot of 3D design stuff is PC only)But I have to say that specs can be misleading, I have a PC and and iMac with almost identical specs in terms of RAM and Processor (if anything the mac's specs are slightly lower)and the mac runs far faster, but you will still get more power for your money on a PC.

Depends what's loading in Windows and on Windows though. You can strip Windows right back and down to make it fly. Neither can compare to a custom compiled linux kernel, mind.

Whoa there, not so fast. We've got two video workstations, and a our "little" Pyramix native machine, all running core2 quads, 4Gb RAM, RAID drives etc, and each machine was built for the pricely sum of £700.
None of them has ever missed a beat. I've spent the entire weekend running 60+ tracks of audio on our native Pyramix machine, and haven't run into a single issue whatsoever.
The whole "apple is for creative work" is just trend-whore nonsense.
Use them if you want, but that's the only real reason to get one over a PC - wanting one.

True. But if 4XJ has difficulty reading the specs(no offense meant 4XJ), I doubt he, or many average users will have the skills to strip down windows or run linux. Where as a mac works fast straight out of the box. But having said that , for the same money you could get a PC with a lot RAM so it would be quicker anyway.

It's actually one of my pet bugbears manufacturers loading their own BS onto their rigs, laptop or tower, it does Windows consumers no favours whatsoever and just cuts into the performance they want and expect. On the brighter side, 7 vs Vista is a whole lot better for them.
