I'm getting loads of punc!ur@$ at the moment (not that i'm superstitious about the 'p' work of course..). is this:

a. becasuse i was bragging to a mate recently how i had gone over 1000 miles without one
b. becasue all the rain has made extra grit on the road or tyres softer or some other technical thingy
c. beacause my tyres (michelin pro3) are 9 months old and have done 2000 miles or so
d. all of the above

I managed 6000k without a puncture on my old tyres. :D

When it's wet, the grit sticks to the tyres, so is pushed into the rubber for a few more wheel rotations than usual. This makes it much more likely that something will make it all the way through to the inntertube.

Looks like Bhima is in for a whole load of trouble now. :o

Not had one in ages... I'll report back to here if I get one in the next week. Hopefully, the theory is wrong...

When wet grit and glass are lubricated, this makes it easier for it to push through the tyre, hence more punctures. Pro Race 3' are also a light racing tyre (albeit with some puncture protection) so are more likely to puncture in these conditions, especially when worn - and your's sound pretty well used. Added to this that the rain washes more grit into the roads as well and its a recipe for "bad luck".

Fit heavier winter tyres - Gatorskins, etc and this should reduce the frequency. Fit some new PR3s in spring.
  • I also had 2 punctures in one week recently - so put on some of those hard case bontrager tyres which seem to be slightly stronger - no punctures in the last few weeks (yet!)

I always carry levers/pump/tube with me, so at least I can fix them when I'm about
