Hi all,

Been looking around for a half-decent pair of calipers for ~£100 & seen some quite nice looking efforts from Kurve & a rather similar looking set on the Planet X website (both of these look alot like the more expensive Zero Gravity ones). Anyone had any experience with either of these? Doesn't seem to be any great difference between them, although the Planet X ones seem to come in every colour imaginable!

Cheers

What have you got at the moment ?

And are you going for a weight upgrade, performance upgrade or just something that looks pretty ?
  • No idea on performance, but Planet-X are doing titanium skewers free with sets of CNC calipers for 100 squids...

The above look very similar in design to my Bontrager Speed Limits, which never did get permanently fitted to the Felt (got rather concerned about RaceBlades dumping muck on calipers, all to be sorted with Mr Crud mudguards by Xmas). When they were fitted for a dry week, they felt great, relative to the stock Shimano Super SLRs.

    Hey,

At the moment it's some random anonymous calipers which came as standard on my Dolan Mythos, they aren't too bad in the dry but I still need to grab a fair handfull of the brake lever to make a brisk stop - wouldn't fancy an emergency stop in the rain put it that way! I'm planning to change the brake pads first & see what difference that makes but i'll probably change the cantis sooner or later anyway.

I suppose it's more from the point of performance & looking pretty if i'm honest, i'm not really a weight weenie but if they're a good deal lighter than what i'm currently running then it'd be an added bonus. I wouldn't go for anything on looks alone if they didn't have some performance improvement, apart from some shiny bolts  , but they don't cost 100 quid!

    Cheers,

Hmm, free ti/carbon skewers with the Planex X calipers, looks like a good deal - might be persuaded to go for those then!

    Well spotted!

  • Have the cheaper forged version of the planet x brakes, the design and operation is identical to the even lighter CNC version :D

They are very powerful (not used in the wet yet though) and have cartridge pads, so can replace with koolstops inserts for the wet if not and easily on a par with dura ace for a lot less weight/cash. front and rear for £50.

Thats on mavic ksyrium elite/SL rims anyway.
