I would advise using SPD type pedals...
SPD (mountainbike type) shoes have two holes in the sole, and will only take the offroad type cleats.

SPD-SL are the road type shoes, and have three holes in the sole. These will only take road type cleats.

If you will be doing a mix of walking/riding while out on the bike, then go for the SPD 'offroad' pedals, as these are easier to walk in...

just to make your decisions harder, it may be worth your while looking at the pedals that are flat one side and spd the other, or if you get an spd double sided pedal and then clip a flat pedal onto it. I find this a good winter bike solution to going out at weekends with spd shoes on and going to work or down to the shops in normal trainers.

  • Hi, I use the Shimano A530 which is a dual function pedal flat on one side and spd on the other.
I don't sleep with my bike really!

I would advise you to just start with the pedals it comes with and if eventually you decide to go for clip-ins, look at mountain bike/leisure SPD shoes and pedals. I have recently bought these shoes (after just using trainers for the past few years):

and I am still using with flat pedals but thinking of trying clipless with either these pedals:

or I might be brave and try these double-sized pedals:

As I say, I have just used flat touring pedals up to now, but today I attached plastic clips to them and I found them really good for keeping my feet in place in the wet and helped me on the hills with the pulling power. So I might delay clipping-in for a while longer.

Accordingly I don't think there any need for you to rush to get proper shoes and clip-in pedals for a hybrid, until you decide they are really necessary for the riding you want to do.
  • Ok Thanks for the Help i think i will get some of the spds with the flat pedal on other side

    Thanks Aidy ..........

P.s Im sure there will be more Questions to come
