New Nobby Nic tyre not round?

Just fitted a brand new nobby nic to the rear and when I spun the wheel I noticed the tyre height was not even and had a "raised area" on the height. only about 3-5mm.
The rim seems true and straight.

If i touch the tread and spin the wheel it shows the high and low areas clearly, yet when I do the same to the edge of the rim it is perfect.

Any ideas? Surely it's not a faulty tyre?

It sounds like you've not seated the bead on the rim properly. Trying deflating and put some soapy water around the bead and reinflating to help seat the bead.
    [edit] Beaten to it
  • If you have a track pump, use soapy water around the beads, then inflate up to 70-80psi, it should then seat correctly. You can then drop the pressure to your normal one afterwards
