Novice here looking for a bike.
Mainly be using it on hilly b roads and hoping to venture off road. I've got a country park on my doorstep which has some basic trails so i'll be trying them out.
I've been looking at the following:

I'd appreciate your thoughts / recommendations.

Both come with a £20 accessories voucher0 -
Hi Scott
Welcome to the forums....
If you could up your budget to £300 you'll bag something that is more all terrain than the one's you listed. They'll probably be ok for some light trail stuff, but if you catch the bug you may find them lacking... mainly as the front suspension forks are limited.
Try the ones listed above or this one at decathlon.

Better fork, disk brakes, better gears.
A great beginners bike that will cut it on the rough stuff.Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

Worth mentioning that the rockrider only has cable actuated disc brakes and not hydraulic.0

the rockrider is the biggest bargain at of those 30
-
I'd also like to throw this in the pot.

save up any extra money etc over Xmas and buy the £300 decathlon. That extra £100 will get you alot more!0
-
I'd agree with the people saying spend an extra £100. I bought a £200 bike to start me off, with a similar spec to the ones you listed, and it really was poor. Heavy, useless cable discs, awful suspension. You don't have to spend much more to get something that has genuinely been built to go off road.0

Assuming a budget of £300, are the Carrera/Decathlon/GT all similar spec'd?
Does one stand out from the rest?0 -
I'm going to suggest something different...
Lovely ride (test rode one in March), nice spec, great price...

£299!
Granted, it has no suspension fork, but htis bike has a lovely "floaty" feel.
Almost bought this instead of the Triscross Singlecross I'm test riding today.================
2020 Voodoo Marasa
2017 Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc 2016
2016 Voodoo Wazoo0 -
£300 is too far too stretch.
Which one out of these 3?

Is the Norco a better option due to the disc brakes?0 -

My brother has a Giant Rincon and uses it for exactly the kind of riding you describe.
It will do fine for you, I'm sure.0 -
I would go for either the Felt Q200 or the Giant Rincon.
Or the Focus Highland Peak 2009
