is there anyway you can test either or have used them before?

nice choice on the rims. i love them 8)
  • well i've had juicy 3 but hated every second of their existance on the bike... I swore to never use them again.

I've also used some older hopes and some minis. the minis were pretty good but the old ones were poo.
    So kinda in 2 minds.

all depends if i can find hope red floating rotors and x2 levers/bits cheap.
  • Nice looking build there Benj, looks familiar though I must say

I'm looking at the same Revs except I'm going for the Teams with the BBMC. Really cant wait to get it set up and ride the thing :D

Massively ressurecting an old post here, given it was as a cheeky retort in the first place...

My carbon Zaskar was 3.5lbs, which is the same as a fairly standard £150 alloy frame. Nothing like the 1200g - 2.6lb figure GT were floating around.

Had a finish that looked absolutely nothing like it did on the website, instead of a carbon top coat they'd opted to smear black paint on it?

Had a 100% failure rate between the two of us, didn't you have to send one back too?

It was hideously flexy when sat down pedaling, unlike damped suspension this was a dodgy self perpetuating type of flex, this may have been due to the crack in the seatpost though.

Actually, I'll linger on that one more, the seatpost had a crack in!

Curiously, in the 2 years it's been out has been avoided for reviews by every magazine in the UK, aside from 1 vague STW feature.

..and it was recommended for 100mm forks. Does ANYWHERE state using 130mm forks is an option?! My Stumpjumper HT can take 8" triple clamps! It doesn't mean it's a great idea.

I'd genuinely take the P7 out of the two ;) Quality can't always be measured in weight and vital statistics. My new Ibis Mojo frame with clamp, shock and upgraded Lopes link weighs 6.25lbs btw, not that I'm counting, hehe :P

Sorry, spamming your thread. Couldn't resist replying to the "your frame is rubbish, you should have got a carbon zaskar" style post on page 1 :P Apologies, finding out I can't go to Bikeradar Live after a winter of training for the enduro has sent me into a monstrous, argumentative rage!

Oh and you clearly should have got a Meta, but that's another discussion :P

Fair point - he should have got a P7 and a Meta (which are coincidentally exactly the same bikes that I have).

no that i'm awake.... i understand it now

didn't realise you both had problems with the zaskar!
  • Bars arrived today :D

For those that are arsed (I couldn't give a rats)... they weigh pretty much bob on.
I assume its 155g for the 660mm low rise. The 685mm high rise weigh around 180-185g.
  • So. After a weekend of deliberation, reasoning and a load of brews I've decided....

I'm no longer looking at hope stuff. I'm more than impressed with my shimano parts running with rs forks on my NS so I'm going the same way on the p7.

Mavic xm719 dtswiss db spokes and xt hubs.... Almost £100 less than on hopes.
XT brakes. The review in MBUK has been throwing me, I just don't get why it's got a low score! They're the same sorta set up as my Saints, and I bloody love them!!
XT gearing to match the chainset.

So happy I've now decided lol! Tis a big weight off my mind!
Gonna go with thomson stem/seatpost too, even though I said I never would! Haha!
And I'll probably end up with a charge spoon or similar...

    Yay :D

Nice wheels choice Ben - in the end  can't beat proper loose bearing hubs. I just ordered xt hubs, db spokes and mtx rims for the blender don't you know :D

Be great to see this all done :D you'll have to bring it out to rivi / gisburn.
Good luck with the rest of the build.

  • Yea yea I know I'm a fussy bugger haha!

Never had to adjust my saint hubs and never seen any cracked xt hubs lol!

Should hopefully have the frame tomorrow or Tuesday, tWas posted next day delivery on Friday :)

still gotta wack the spacer in the revs though, not looking forwad to that as it's a bit more invasive than I'd hoped :(

aye never ridden rivi so looking forward to that! Riding the Saracen all this week, NS to whinlatter on Saturday and digging on Sunday! A full bike week hehe!
  • Ben, will xt hubs work with your bolt thru forks?

  • That's ok then. Is there a 15mm yet? I fancy some new wheels on my Marin but it's got fox qr15 forks.

ben i know i'm a month to late but..

race face deus crank. earlier you ask about strength,,

i put one on my santa cruz in sept (a 2010 one) i was sceptical at first about strength and the bb raceface bb are poo,,,
i trashed mine for 3 weeks in whistler got it to replace my old lx one for my trip to whistler, it stood up to trails like crank it up ninja couger karate monkey a-line b-line blue velvet ect in the bike park and many xc trails through out whistler...
the bb still spins smooth,, had one minor problem i lost a chainring bolt but it was replaced and the remaining ones tightened up, been fine since...

i went for deus simply cause of how it looked (i know i'm a tart at heart) i was gonna go carbon but they were silly money...

    oui oui!!!

    Frame has turned up :D
The crudcatcher bolts are missing though which is a tad annoying so i've emailed the shop! although, I might be changing them for red KCNC bolts... more the principle... I bought them bolts

Love the frame though, very nicely welded and looks gorgeous..... especially with white revs there hehe!
  • nice one, I have the red KCNC bolts (because I am a tart and they look pimp), if not I think I have some new/not needed allu bolts you can have for free if I can find them/you need them.... :)
  • haha fair enough :)

Should get the bolts through though! The KCNC ones are £6.50 a pair.... i'd need 5 pairs
  • they are worth it, very small though, smaller than 'normal' bolts, and weigh nothing!!!

I have gone a bit KCNC crazy: bottle cage bolts, seatclamp, skewers, and soon, jockey wheels
  •

    I'm thinking the same hehe.

I've got a red hope headset fitted which looks loooovverly (I think thats why the bolts are missing, the frame was taken out to fit headset) but i'm glad I didnt go for red hope hubs... would have been toooo much red!!

Gonna get a few subtle bits here and there.... Chainring bolts, jockey wheels, seatclamp. the rest will be black I think :)

clee cycles / ready to ride cycles are great for KCNC stuff.... oh and if you follow the current trend for KMC X10 chains, £34 on ebay (i got the linki if you want).....
  • hmmmm... a red chain eh..... sounds interesting.... do share :P

Not red - only gold or silver.... ;)

I opted for gold predictably
