anyone compared the two? Wondered how much faster rolling the big earl is, and whether there is a noticeable reduction in grip.

for hard trail riding and freeride duties.

The big earl is the slowest rolling tyre i've tried, about twice as slow as the HRs

I don't really agree but it's a bit of a pointless comparison unless you say which compound/size HR you are talking about.

Personally I really rate the Big Earl's and prefer them to HRs - they are fairly similar but seem to wear less quickly and roll better than either super tacky or the 60a High Rollers in 2.35.

I am using the 2.5 wet Big Earls btw.
  • thanks for that, I am running 60a compound HR 2.35. I thought the big earls would roll quicker just wanted to know how much grip i would be loosing.

Am thinking of going 2.5 front and 2.35 rear both wets, any thoughts?

I think you will find the grip fine - I would say they roll a bit faster but it might not make a massive difference.

42a supertacky front and 60a rear and the big earls were like tractor tyres in comparison.I don't get people who say HR are draggy.I run 30psi front and 34rear weigh 13 stone and i find them faster rolling than BEs/Nevegals/rampages.

I had the same combo and kind of found the opposite. I prefer something a bit faster rolling than HRs or Big Earls on the back though.

I liked my High Rollers for grip but they were draggy as hell and didn't last long.
