Mixing 11 & 10 speed campag groupset?

Hello chaps - 1st time post so be gentle with me!

When the weather improves in the early spring (I'm an optimist) I would like to replace my 10 speed Veloce (2009) with a more bling groupset, probably Chorus 11 speed. However, I would rather not have to part with my hard earned all at once!

Does anyone know how successful I could be trying to integrate the 11 speed in with my existing groupset a bit at a time? i.e. - could I buy the front mech and chainset first , then levers etc etc? I was thinking of this order, with perhaps the rear mech and casette last to go to full 11 speed.

My question really is whether the 11 speed levers will work with a 10 speed block initially with the adjustment fiddled with etc, and will the chainset be ok with a 10 speed chain and groupset? I should add that my current Veloce groupset is compact and has a medium length rear mech fitted.

Any help much appreciated! :?

The essentials are shifters, chain and cassette, which must be fitted together. You do not need to replace either mech as they will work fine with nine, ten or eleven speed.

Thanks - that has given me a good starting point! Is it definitely the case that the levers won't work as the first upgrade? Is this to do with the spacing between sprocketts?

    Correct.

Personally I would wait a while if you are happy with Veloce, Campag are bound to introduce 11 on that GS too and it would save a hefty chunk of wedge.

I understand totally what you are saying and I agree that would be entirely sensible, but there is something calling me to that carbon fibre!!

I am going to wait a while anyway so the Veloce has to deal with the crappy weather and roads. My last bike had a comlete Chorus groupset and I miss the lighter shifts, but the cost seems huge these days!

Just to make sure - a Campag 10spd Record rear mech WILL work with a Campag Record 11spd chain, cassette & ergos???

I only ask as I've been told it wouldn't work. I would be most pleased to hear that my 10spd mech will work with my 11 speed plans - it'll save me around £200
