Hey
I am buying a frame I have been trying to find for sometime now.
I have put a max bid, but I was wondering has anyone used these tools?
I dont want to rely on this and it does not work, and then miss out on a sale.
I might use it as a back up and do the manual thing as well.
Thanks

I use http://www.myibay.com/ for sniping, worked every time I've used it when I've gone in with the highest bid.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
used to use auctionsniper but then thought well, i'll put in my maximum and if i win it, i win it! if not doesnt matter!
if i desperately want it i'll stay and watch it chuck in a bid last seconds, much easier than the old days on dial up doing the same loL! had to press bid now with about a minute to go to make sure it worked hahah!Timmo.

Hey
Just signed up for a free trial on the esnipe, if its good enough for the gadget shpw then it should be ok.
Is it ok to have both going at the same time?
goofbay and esnipe
Fingers crossed.0 -
No checked that first.
I would look like a right tool.
It all goes on usernames I think.
I might cancel that goofbay anyway, as they said they are having troubles at the moment.
And I will bid myself as well just as backup.0 -
You really want this frame, don't you?0
-
YES...
Dont know what it is, but its a canadian bike with canadian colors and would look sweet with some white sids or rebas.
I wont pay like 1000.00 for it, but near enough with duty and shipping.
Oh and didnt have the money in 07 or 08 when they came out.
Was looking at one in tredz when they did, and they had to tell me to leave as I was drooling too much and making the floor wet.0 -
Your bidding on a frame you don't know and prepared to pay close to a thousand pounds for it?0
-
Its a brand new XC frame, So not much to know,
Its got awsome write ups, so most people happy with it.
And its coming from an auth rocky mountain dealer.
I have sat on the bike a while ago when they were selling.

(Economics kicking in.....)
There's actually be no need for those sniping tools if people learnt to use eBay properly. If you put in the max you're genuinely willing to pay, and everyone else does, then the auction will be sorted straight away! Unfortunately the general public aren't very rational!0 -
That and when you realise you're not the highest bidder you up your 'max' bid anyway!0
-
But what you got to remember is this:
If I put in a max of 700.00. what if someone puts 705.00.
With this tool I can just leave it, and if it goes to that price or above then .. Oh well, way above my limit with duty and postage.
Not including I want some white and red sids or rebas.
I dont use ebay that much, so, I tend to either sell little bits, or buy deal of the day or something;0 -
Then why no put a max bid in of £710?!
]I agree with bails87, stick to your max, enter it once and you cannot possibly pay more than you want regardless of what happens.0 -
Why put 710.00 in?
Its only at 5 right now, so what if it does not go to 7.
Put the bid in the last 3 seconds, I used to do it myself, but cant be bother.
Open two screens, the ebay and the another ebay, then watch the clock, then at 10 secs put in your bid, then wait.
Bit geeky i know, but hey it wins bids.0 -
Why not?
It will only go up in incremements to your bid, it doesn't jump straight to your max bid!
Am I missing something really obvious here?!0 -
Yes it does.
If a bid right now is 500.00 and I put in 700.00 then someone needs to beat 700.00 and if no one does, I need to pay 700.00
So if the bids only go's around 5-600.00 then I have just wasted 100.00
(eg) ebay bid 300.00... , I place a bid for 600.00(which is my max)but no one will to pay above 400.00 then I have just wasted 200.000 -
It doesn't work like that as I said - you place your £600 bid (it is a max bid) it will bid at an increment above the last bid until it hits £6000
-
If thats the case.
Then why can I see the highest bid right now on ebay?
it went from like 300 to 400 with one bid.
If you look at the bidding history you can see the max bids.
I am new to ebay. 50 sales and 100% so not an expert
But I know if I put 1000.00 right now, someone else will see that and can bid 1005. 00
Maybe I am getting confused with this now. :?:0 -
It doesn't show all the bidding history.
The bid is at £300 currently. The bidder (A) may have put in a max bid of £400, but as the last bid was £295 it jumps to £300.
Then someone puts in a max bid of £500, and it will jump to £405. So it can jump big depending on the bids.0 -
Ok now I am confused.
I though if an item was .. lets say 1.00 and I put a bid of 20.00, then someone that sees the bid will have to place a bid above 20.00?
I can see the bid history, if you click on the number of bids,0 -
They will have to place more than £20 to be in front, but he might put in a tenner into start which won't be enough - he will get the 'you have been outbid by another ebay member' and the bidding will show as £10 from YOU.0
-
If a bid starts at £1 and you bid £1000 and no one else bids, then you pay £1.
If after your £1000 bid, someone else bids £50, then their bid will immediately be shown as too low and you will have to pay £51, etc etc.
I thought it was all fairly self-explanatory.
Where systems like esnipe win is that people bidding early can artificially drive the price up.
It's all well and good saying "pick your maximum and stick to it" but invariably no one ever does. People bid what they are prepared to pay, but they almost always hold a little in reserve "just in case".
If your maximum for the item you want is say £100 and it sells for £105 to someone else because you're sticking to some kind of principle, then you're going to look a bit of a tit.0 -

I stick to my guns! Many people don't know when to say stop lol and that £100 turns into £157 due to some bidding war. Then you look a tit ;-)0

Thanks joe for the sugestion.
Now for the duty and delivery.
200 for duty and 120.00 for delivery
Still not to bad, i think.
But hey I wanted it bad.0 -

How much were you prepared to pay?0 -
$700.00
duty was £200.00 and shipping was £130.00
So did not want to really go over £700.00 total
Not too bad, it is a sweet frame. I hope....
But duty was £200.00 based on $800.00 so should be about £150.00.
Thanks guys for the info.0
