Hi Folks

I went out for a crafty blast this morning, having been given a pink ticket by the missus.

About 15 miles into the ride, the p*ncture fairy came to visit. No problem, I always carry loads of inner tubes and CO2 cannisters etc.

Oops - I used to carry loads until I used them and forgot to replace them. Fortunately I had a spare inner and one gas cannister but it meant I had to head for home out of fear that another p*ncture would have left a very long walk in cleats,,,

Check those supplies folks!

There's always the option of a mobile phonecall to the cavalry...although this might reduce your pink ticket supply

That option would have been taken but the wife is recovering from surgery and so unable to drive :(

Belt, braces, cycle clips etc That's me!
  • wife usually with the kids when I'm out so I'd have to call a mate for the support vehicle.
he'd then probably quiz me on why I was getting some crafty miles in without him :)

Does no one carry a simple repair kit anymore?

I just carry park patches and a spare tube that way when the patches work i can still carry on as i still have a spare tube.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I had one of those with me, but no CO2 cartridges.

I'd much prefer to carry spare inner tubes and do the repairs when I get home. Repairs on the road are a bit of a faff,

Puncture repair kit (patches, glue, levers, chalk, wet-n-dry)
    2 x tubes
    Tyre boots
    Multitool
    2 x chain quick links
Short length of chain (in case of multiple damaged links)
    Cable ties
Frame pump (CO2 is for wimps. Do you have stabilisers too? Don't even get me started on those poxy minipumps.)
If it's night, spare batteries for the lights (rechargeables have a nasty habit of suddenly dropping off).

I would never ditch the PRK despite carrying two tubes, the chances of getting two punctures on a 100+ mile ride are not sufficently remote.

I take out patches to repair the tube, but also a spare inner tube, saved for the occasion when the original tube is beyond repair, such as a massive blowout, or valve failure.

Don't forget reading glasses if you need them  try fixing a puncture with your eyes closed.

I carry a repair kit, you never know when you might need it.

I used to carry a pen and piece of paper in case I met a nice young lady who was willing to give me her phone number. The pen dried up and the paper became tattered without ever being used so I got tired of carrying the extra 20 grams and ditched them.
