£1000 hardtail advice?

Hi, I have a £1000 cycle-to-work voucher to spend, and am planning to get a hardtail. I've been wondering about the 2010 Rockhopper SL, Kona Kula, Marin Eldridge Grade. Any thoughts on these, or other suggestions at that price point?

Yes, XC stuff is right. I previously had a Marin Nail Trail and liked it, but it got nicked. The exchange rate seems to mean it is out of the price range for the voucher I can get, sadly.

Marin had a play around for 2010. I got a 2009 Nail Trail for £880ish brand new but they've added some fox on the forks ec to push the price of this years model up.

my local cycle works were doing marin indian fire trails at a grand - pretty good price - they do C2W, but your voucher may be shop dependent
