hi there, on my mums bike she has deore groupset, don't think it is the deore XT. she is saying, that on the mech it is now hard to change it into the outer chainring, and also harder to change it on to the outer sprocket. she claims to have left it in the middle chain ring, and i understand deore tend to seize up from this?

how can i loosen up the change, she says its fine to change from about 1 - 4 on the sprockets, but after that it gets really stiff. any ideas? could i greese the cables? maybe grit in there? or is it just as simple as spraying abit of WD40 on them, and applying abit of grease?

sounds like new cables are needed.

Does it require more effort to change gear ?

Disconnect the cables, do the mechs move free?

  • yea she says it will change, but there is alot more needed to be able to change it. have some spare cables, would it be worth a go? and if they do move free with out the cables conected does this mean it is the cables?

Try a new inner cable, give the cables a blast with GT85 to clear out any muck. If its still difficult to shift, then replace the outers as well.
