chainring bolts(now with pics)

Hi
Ive replaced the 4 chainring bolts on my crank,when i started to fit the bolt and nut ,ive noticed the bolt is smaller than the one ive taken off ,ive kept the nut part from the origionall one and just used the new bolt ,but it doesnt go all the way through and it kleaves a couple mm will this be ok ,thank you

Do you mean the bolt is shorter and the rings are tight?
it depends on how short.

Yes the bolt is shorter ,and the rings are tight ,they dont move ie no play ,when you look behind the chainrings you can see that the bolt doesnt come all the way through its short by a couple of threads ,sorry no pics (at work)0 -

quite a few turns .i recon another 2to3 full turns and they would be all way through0 -
